about

Let's see.. Talking to God was the last song recorded for Omnicore. Then Convulsions, then this. We kept recording and moving forward.

We wanted this song to be straightforward and heavy. I wasn't too into the the talking bits, but Gary loved it, so I guess that's a hats off to Zappa or FNM. I liked how this one turned out.

Flatstick 2 was going to feature more 7 string guitar and MORE rhythm tracks. We wanted to top Omnicore and I believe we would have. This particular song was standard tuning, Drop D.

Lyrical content is typical macho, "we're bad ass, you're the new dipshit on the block, lemme show you how it's done" kinda thing. We made up the word Schizophobia, and I forgot what our fucking definition was, ha ha ha ha!! I think I was trying to channel Phil Anselmo for the verses with that talking stuff..I even cop a bit of a southern accent during those parts.

My favorite is that little Slayer ride cymbal thing with Gary busting Marty Friedman style shit over the top. Also, when I sing the word Schizophobia at the end, that's two of me, alternating between syllables. It's also panned hard left and right. It better be. Lol.

Obviously in the demo stages, so rough mix and not mastered.

Flatstick Melbourne, Australia

Flatstick was originally a two man project between Melbourne musicians, John Sanders (AKA: Doug Steele) and Gary McKay (R.I.P.). The sound created by the two is best described as Faith No More meets Strapping Young Lad meets Frank Zappa meets Meshuggah meets Pantera meets Mr. Bungle meets Korn, and a dash of jazz (and a slice of electronic dance). ... more
